🌙🐱 The Midnight Kitten Sleepover 🐱🌙
It was a quiet night inside the RV.
Mom was fast asleep.
Echo was asleep.
Che-Ni-Mon was asleep.
Lily was asleep.
The moonlight poured softly through the windows.
Everything was peaceful.
Chad slowly opened one eye.
Then Agaricus opened one eye.
The two kittens looked at each other.
“You thinking what I’m thinking?”
whispered Chad.
“This is probably a bad idea.”
whispered Agaricus.
“…so yes?”
“…yes.”
The kittens quietly unlocked the little window.
Just enough.
One tiny whistle.
Psssst.
From the darkness…
One kitten climbed in.
Then another.
Then another.
Then another.
Then one last tiny kitten.
Five neighborhood kittens had arrived.
The RV had officially become…
The greatest sleepover in history.
The kittens chased toy mice.
Built blanket forts.
Played pirate ship.
Played hide-and-seek.
Pretended the couch was a mountain.
Pretended the kitchen was a jungle.
Everything had to be whispered.
Which, for kittens, meant…
Very loud whispering.
“SHHHHH!”
whispered Chad loudly.
“I AM BEING QUIET!”
another kitten loudly whispered back.
The first close call came quickly.
One kitten accidentally knocked over a tiny metal food bowl.
CLINK!
Mom stirred.
The entire RV froze.
One eye slowly opened.
The kittens stopped breathing.
“…”
Mom smiled in her sleep.
Turned over.
And kept sleeping.
The kittens all sighed with relief.
Echo slowly lifted her head from her favorite sleeping spot.
Without opening both eyes she mumbled,
“…keep it down.”
Then immediately fell asleep again.
The sleepover continued.
The kittens invented a new game called…
“The Floor Is Lava.”
Nobody remembered the rules.
Least of all Chad.
Which somehow made him the champion.
Then…
The second close call.
One kitten sneezed.
“Achoo!”
Another kitten sneezed.
“Achoo!”
Soon everyone was trying not to laugh.
Mom shifted again.
Che-Ni-Mon sat upright.
Eyes wide.
“We’re doomed.”
she whispered.
One tiny guest kitten asked,
“Are we?”
Che-Ni-Mon nodded dramatically.
“So… very… doomed.”
Mom stretched.
Yawned.
Then settled back down.
Che-Ni-Mon slowly exhaled.
“Not doomed.”
“Yet.”
Everyone continued playing.
Even quieter this time.
Until…
The third close call.
Chad challenged everyone to see who could jump the farthest between couch cushions.
It was a terrible idea.
Naturally…
Everyone agreed.
BOING!
BOUNCE!
FLOP!
A pillow landed beside Lily.
Lily slowly opened one eye.
She looked at the six tiny kittens.
Then the upside-down cushions.
Then the blanket fort.
She sighed.
“You little pirates…”
The kittens froze.
Lily yawned.
“If Mom wakes up…”
“…I’m blaming every single one of you.”
She closed her eyes again.
“But…”
“Your fort is actually pretty impressive.”
A tiny smile appeared on her face.
Then she went right back to sleep.
The kittens looked at one another.
“Lily complimented us.”
whispered Chad.
“I don’t know how to process that.”
said Agaricus.
The night rolled on.
Stories were shared.
Games were played.
Friendships grew.
Eventually…
The guest kittens knew it was almost time to leave.
Just then…
Chad leaped toward Mom.
At the exact same moment…
Agaricus leaped too.
Both kittens landed softly on Mom’s blanket.
Mom’s eyes slowly opened.
“Oh…”
she whispered sleepily.
“There you are.”
Without even thinking…
She reached out.
Scratch behind Chad’s ears.
Gentle pets for Agaricus.
The two kittens immediately began purring.
They completely forgot about the sleepover.
While Mom smiled sleepily…
The five visiting kittens quietly looked toward Chad.
Chad opened one eye just enough.
He gave the tiniest nod.
Agaricus flicked her tail toward the window.
The signal.
One by one…
The visiting kittens slipped quietly out the little window.
Before the last kitten climbed outside, Chad whispered,
“Thanks for coming.”
Agaricus smiled.
“Next time…”
“We’ll make it even more fun.”
The last kitten grinned.
“We’ll be here.”
The window quietly slid shut.
Mom continued gently petting Chad and Agaricus.
“You two always wear yourselves out.”
she whispered.
The kittens simply purred.
Neither of them mentioned the blanket fort.
Or the pirate games.
Or the five extra kittens who had just visited.
Across the RV…
Echo smiled without opening her eyes.
“I knew.”
she mumbled.
Che-Ni-Mon pulled her blanket tighter.
“I definitely didn’t know.”
Lily smiled to herself.
“I did.”
Outside…
Five tiny kittens ran home beneath the moonlight.
Already talking about the next sleepover at the mysterious RV where adventures never seemed to end.
And inside the RV…
Chad and Agaricus slowly drifted off to sleep beneath Mom’s gentle hand.
Their biggest secret…
Still safe.
Or so they thought.
