๐ŸŒ™ Chad and the Living Constellations ๐ŸŒ™

A RV Guardians Bedtime Story

One quiet night, the RV was parked in the desert beneath a sky so clear that every star seemed close enough to touch.

Dragon Claw lay beside the RV, snoring softly.

Lily was asleep.

Che-Ni-Mon was asleep.

Echo was pretending to be asleep.

Agaricus Bisporus was asleep on top of a pillow.r

Only Chad was awake.

He stared at the stars.

And the stars stared back.

At leastโ€ฆ

He thought they did.

A bright cluster of stars suddenly shifted.

Then another.

Then another.

Chad rubbed his eyes.

The constellations were moving.

Not drifting.

Not twinkling.

Moving.

Like living creatures.

โ€œAGARICUS!โ€

The kitten bolted awake.

โ€œWhat? Is the RV on fire?โ€

โ€œThe stars are alive.โ€

โ€œOh.โ€

Agaricus yawned.

โ€œThatโ€™s worse.โ€

Within minutes the entire family was awake.

Even Lily.

Even Che-Ni-Mon.

Dragon Claw opened one eye.

โ€œWhat are we looking at?โ€

Chad pointed upward.

Everyone gasped.

Above them, the constellations had left their places in the sky.

A giant star-dragon stretched across the heavens.

A glowing star-wolf chased a comet.

A star-rabbit hopped between planets.

A thousand sparkling creatures danced among the stars.

The night sky had come alive.

Echoโ€™s eyes grew huge.

โ€œWe HAVE to follow them.โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ said Lily.

โ€œAbsolutely,โ€ said Chad.

โ€œProbably,โ€ said Agaricus.

โ€œI vote no,โ€ said Che-Ni-Mon.

Nobody listened.

Dragon Claw lifted the RV into the air.

Higher.

Higher.

Higher.

Until Earth became a blue marble below them.

Soon they found themselves drifting among the stars.

The living constellations surrounded them.

They werenโ€™t made of fur or feathers.

They were made of pure starlight.

Each one glowed softly.

Each one moved gracefully through space.

The Star Rabbit approached first.

It was the size of a school bus.

Its ears shimmered like silver galaxies.

It sniffed Chad.

Then licked him.

Chad fell over.

โ€œBest day ever.โ€

The constellation creatures welcomed the travelers.

The Star Dragon bowed to Dragon Claw.

The Star Wolf raced Echo around a comet.

Agaricus spent hours asking questions.

Che-Ni-Mon hid behind a seat.

Lily kept count to make sure nobody wandered away.

Everything seemed perfect.

Until the stars began disappearing.

One by one.

Blink.

Gone.

Blink.

Gone.

Blink.

Gone.

Entire constellations vanished.

The creatures became frightened.

The sky grew darker.

A giant living constellation drifted toward them.

It resembled an ancient owl made from thousands of stars.

Its voice echoed through space.

โ€œTHE EATER OF LIGHT HAS RETURNED.โ€

Everyone froze.

Except Chad.

โ€œWhatโ€™s that?โ€

The owl pointed toward a distant darkness.

A massive shadow moved between the stars.

It wasnโ€™t a creature.

It was a storm.

A living cosmic storm that consumed starlight.

Where it passed, darkness remained.

The constellation creatures fled.

The storm approached.

Closer.

Closer.

Closer.

Lily immediately began organizing everyone.

Echo gathered frightened constellation creatures.

Agaricus studied the storm.

Che-Ni-Mon panicked professionally.

Dragon Claw prepared for battle.

And Chad had an idea.

A dangerous idea.

โ€œWhat if we make MORE light?โ€

Everyone stared at him.

Agaricus blinked.

โ€œThatโ€™sโ€ฆ actually not terrible.โ€

The constellation creatures formed a giant circle.

The Star Dragon.

The Star Wolf.

The Star Rabbit.

The cosmic owl.

Hundreds more.

Together they joined their starlight.

The brightness grew.

And grew.

And grew.

Dragon Claw added his golden fire.

The RV turned on every light it had.

Even the reading lamp.

Especially the reading lamp.

The storm reached them.

Darkness crashed against starlight.

The stars pushed back.

The constellation creatures shone brighter than ever.

Soon the darkness began shrinking.

Then shrinking more.

Thenโ€”

POOF!

The storm dissolved into harmless sparkles.

The stars were safe.

The living constellations cheered.

The Star Rabbit bounced so high it accidentally circled Mars.

The Star Wolf howled.

The cosmic owl bowed.

And the Star Dragon touched its glowing nose to Dragon Clawโ€™s.

An old sign of respect.

As a reward, the constellations gifted the family a tiny star crystal.

It floated gently above the RV.

Forever glowing.

Forever warm.

A reminder of their adventure.

Back on Earth, the RV landed just before sunrise.

Everyone climbed into bed.

Exhausted.

Happy.

Safe.

Che-Ni-Mon wrapped herself in blankets.

โ€œIโ€™m never going to space again.โ€

Echo smiled.

โ€œYou said that last time.โ€

โ€œI mean it this time.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t.โ€

As the kittens drifted to sleep, Chad looked out the window one last time.

High above, the constellations had returned to their places.

To anyone else, they looked like ordinary stars.

But Chad knew the truth.

They were alive.

And somewhere up there, among the endless sea of stars, their new friends were dancing across the night sky.
