ππ Thunder in the Garden ππ
One evening, the RV Guardians returned home after a long day of adventures.
The sun had set.
The stars were beginning to appear.
And as the RV pulled into its usual spot...
A loud bark echoed through the night.
WOOF!
WOOF!
WOOF!
A giant black dog bounded through the neighboring garden.
He jumped.
He barked.
His tail wagged like a helicopter.
The kittens immediately pressed themselves against the window.
Chad's eyes widened.
"WHO IS THAT?!"
Agaricus stood beside him.
"He's huge."
Echo jumped onto the couch for a better view.
Che-Ni-Mon immediately hid behind the couch.
"Why is he so big?!"
Outside, the dog continued bouncing around the garden.
WOOF!
WOOF!
"He sounds excited."
said Echo.
"He sounds enormous."
said Che-Ni-Mon.
The cats continued watching.
Finally Chad asked the question everyone was thinking.
"Who is he?"
Lily glanced out the window.
"Oh."
"That's Thunder."
Everyone turned.
"You know him?"
asked Agaricus.
Lily nodded.
"Unfortunately."
The kittens gasped.
"Is he scary?"
"No."
"Mean?"
"No."
"Dangerous?"
"No."
"Then why don't you like him?"
Lily flicked her tail.
"Because he's a dog."
To Lily, this explained everything.
Echo tilted her head.
"Wait..."
A memory surfaced.
"I think I met him."
Everyone looked at her.
"When I was really little."
Echo smiled.
"I remember trying to play with him."
The others leaned closer.
"What happened?"
Echo laughed.
"I jumped on his tail."
"Oh no."
said Agaricus.
"I stole his toy."
"Oh no."
said Chad.
"I climbed on his back."
"OH NO."
said Che-Ni-Mon.
Echo grinned.
"And he didn't care at all."
The kittens blinked.
"He didn't?"
"Nope."
"He just wagged his tail."
Outside, Thunder barked happily at absolutely nothing.
WOOF!
The cats sat quietly.
Thinking.
Wondering.
What would it be like to live with Thunder?
Eventually everyone curled up for bed.
But Thunder remained on their minds.
And that night...
Something strange happened.
All five cats began dreaming.
π Echo's Dream
Echo dreamed of when she was tiny.
She remembered climbing on Thunder's back.
Pulling his tail.
Stealing his toys.
And Thunder simply wagging his tail the whole time.
When she woke up, she smiled.
Maybe Thunder really was a good dog.
π Che-Ni-Mon's Dream
Che-Ni-Mon dreamed of a giant bully dog.
Thunder stole her toys.
Her blanket.
Her backup blanket.
And somehow her emergency backup blanket too.
When she woke up, she immediately checked all three.
Thankfully they were still there.
π Lily's Dream
Lily dreamed she was sleeping peacefully in her favorite spot.
The sun was warm.
The RV was quiet.
And Thunder was locked safely outside the garden fence.
Lily considered it one of the greatest dreams she had ever had.
π Chad and Agaricus's Dream
Meanwhile...
Something strange happened.
Chad and Agaricus found themselves standing together in the same garden.
The moon hung overhead.
The grass shimmered silver.
And Thunder stood before them.
Huge.
Friendly.
Tail wagging.
"You're seeing this too, right?"
asked Chad.
Agaricus looked around.
"Unfortunately, yes."
Thunder barked.
The kittens barked back.
Then the chase began.
Around bushes.
Over flower beds.
Under benches.
Through the entire garden.
Thunder chased the kittens.
The kittens chased Thunder.
Nobody knew who was winning.
Least of all Thunder.
Eventually Chad leaped onto Thunder's back.
"WE GOT HIM!"
Agaricus climbed aboard too.
Thunder immediately rolled over.
"HE GOT US!"
The wrestling continued for what felt like hours.
Then the dream began fading.
The garden grew brighter.
The stars disappeared.
Morning approached.
"Wait."
said Chad.
"You were actually here."
Agaricus blinked.
"I was about to say the same thing."
Thunder gave one final bark.
WOOF.
Then everything vanished.
The next morning Chad sat up.
At the exact same moment Agaricus sat up.
The two kittens stared at each other.
"Thunder rolled over when we climbed on him."
said Chad.
"He knocked you into the flowers."
said Agaricus.
Both kittens froze.
"You saw that too?"
"You saw that too?"
The older sisters looked at them strangely.
"What are you talking about?"
asked Echo.
The kittens exchanged a glance.
Neither could explain it.
Outside the RV, Thunder stood in the garden.
His tail wagged.
And for the briefest moment...
The big dog gave them a wink.
Chad and Agaricus immediately looked at each other.
"Okay."
said Chad.
"That was weird."
"Very weird."
agreed Agaricus.
And for the rest of the day, neither kitten could decide what was stranger:
That they had shared a dream...
Or that Thunder might have been there too.
