🐾🌞 Just a Kitten’s Day 🌞🐾
One beautiful Sunday morning, Mom smiled at two very excited little kittens.
“Chad…”
“Agaricus…”
“…how would you two like a special field trip?”
The kittens gasped.
“Just us?”
asked Chad.
“The two of us?”
asked Agaricus.
Mom nodded.
“The older girls deserve a quiet day.”
Across the RV…
Echo was already asleep on top of the couch.
Che-Ni-Mon had made herself into the world’s coziest blanket burrito.
Lily had somehow claimed the biggest pillow.
“We’ll be back before dinner.”
Mom whispered.
The older sisters barely opened an eye.
“Have fun.”
mumbled Echo.
“Watch out for everything.”
said Che-Ni-Mon.
“…Bring me back a nap.”
yawned Lily.
The kittens giggled.
Their adventure had begun.
🏖️ Stop One — The Beach
The first stop was a beautiful beach.
The waves gently rolled onto the sand.
Seagulls flew overhead.
The salty breeze ruffled the kittens’ whiskers.
“I’ve never seen so much water!”
said Chad.
“It’s endless.”
whispered Agaricus.
The two kittens raced across the sand.
They chased tiny waves.
Collected funny-looking shells.
Built the world’s smallest sand RV.
Chad even dug a giant hole.
“I’m looking for pirate treasure!”
“What if you find water first?”
asked Agaricus.
“…Then it’ll be underwater treasure.”
Mom couldn’t stop laughing.
Before leaving…
The kittens carefully wrote with their paws in the sand:
RV Guardians were here!
A wave gently washed it away.
“I guess…”
said Chad,
“…the ocean wanted to remember us too.”
🎵 Stop Two — The Meow-Mix Concert
Their next stop was a giant outdoor concert.
A famous cat band was playing.
Meow-Mix!
Thousands of cats filled the crowd.
Everyone danced.
Everyone sang.
Everyone purred along to the music.
The lead singer shouted,
“ARE YOU READY?!”
“MEEEEOOOWWW!!”
the crowd answered.
Chad and Agaricus danced until they couldn’t dance anymore.
Mom even danced a little.
Though she’d never admit it.
One song was about chasing butterflies.
Another about napping in the sunshine.
The final song…
Was called…
Home Is Wherever We Purr Together.
Mom smiled.
The kittens leaned against her.
It became their favorite song.
🌄 Final Stop — Roadrunner Scenic Drive
As the afternoon faded into evening…
Mom drove them to the beautiful overlook at the Roadrunner Scenic Drive near Las Cruces.
The whole valley stretched below them.
Golden sunlight painted the Organ Mountains.
The desert glowed orange.
The sky slowly turned pink.
The three sat quietly together.
For a little while…
Nobody said anything.
They simply watched the sunset.
“It’s pretty.”
said Chad softly.
“It makes home look even bigger.”
said Agaricus.
Mom smiled.
“Sometimes adventures don’t need excitement.”
“Sometimes…”
“…they just need a beautiful view.”
Just then…
A real roadrunner darted across the overlook.
ZIP!
The kittens laughed.
“It lives here!”
“It runs even faster than Echo!”
“…Maybe.”
Mom laughed.
As the stars began appearing overhead…
The little family climbed back into the RV.
When they finally arrived home…
The RV door opened.
Echo immediately stretched.
“You’re back!”
Che-Ni-Mon hurried over.
“Were there bears?”
“No.”
“Wolves?”
“No.”
“Traffic?”
“…A little.”
“I knew it!”
Lily looked up from her pillow.
“…Did you have fun?”
Chad smiled so hard his little face almost disappeared.
“We had the BEST day.”
Agaricus nodded.
“The beach…”
“The music…”
“The mountains…”
“…and the sunset.”
The older sisters smiled as they listened.
Even though they hadn’t gone…
It felt like they had.
That night…
All five sisters curled together on Mom’s bed.
Chad whispered,
“I loved today.”
Agaricus smiled.
“So did I.”
Mom gently scratched behind both of their ears.
“I’m glad.”
“Because…”
“…there are still lots of places left to explore.”
The kittens’ eyes grew wide.
“There are?”
Mom smiled.
“Oh…”
“…so many.”
The two kittens drifted off to sleep dreaming of tomorrow’s adventures.
While outside…
The stars quietly watched over one little RV…
Filled with one wonderful family.
