One lazy afternoon, the RV was unusually…
Quiet.
Very quiet.
Mom looked around.
“That’s strange…”
“When kittens are this quiet…”
“…they’re usually up to something.”
She peeked around the corner.
There they were.
Chad.
Agaricus.
And Echo.
All three were huddled around Mom’s iPad.
Tiny paws tapping the screen as fast as they could.
“GET THE FISH!”
laughed Chad.
“I GOT IT!”
cheered Agaricus.
Echo grinned.
“Highest score!”
The game they were playing was called…
Cat Gunner.
Little cartoon cats launched yarn balls at silly robot mice while collecting fish treats.
“Boom!”
“Laser!”
“Double Fish Combo!”
Hours passed.
The sun slowly moved across the windows.
Still…
The kittens played.
Another hour passed.
Still playing.
Dragon Claw peeked through the window.
“…Are they still playing?”
Mom glanced at the clock.
“They’ve been playing for quite a while.”
Just then…
Che-Ni-Mon slowly walked over carrying her favorite blanket.
She watched quietly for a moment.
“…Um…”
Everyone kept tapping.
“…Guys?”
No response.
“…Guys?”
Still nothing.
Finally…
Che-Ni-Mon gently cleared her throat.
“I think…”
“…playing on the iPad for this long…”
“…is probably a bad thing.”
“…No kitten should be glued to a screen all day.”
The room became quiet.
Echo looked up.
Thought about it for exactly one second.
“…We’ve been playing for hours…”
She threw both paws into the air.
“HELL YEA!!”
“🥳 THAT’S THE WAY TO DO IT!!”
Dragon Claw burst into laughter outside.
Mom couldn’t help giggling too.
Agaricus laughed so hard she almost dropped the iPad.
Chad proudly nodded.
“We’re professionals now!”
Che-Ni-Mon sighed dramatically.

“…exactly what I was worried about.”
Everyone looked toward Lily.
She had been lying on the couch the entire time.

“I’ve seen worse.”
“Worse than playing Cat Gunner all day?”
asked Agaricus.
Lily slowly opened one eye.
“A life with laser pointers.”
Everyone looked confused.
Lily continued.
“If you think this is bad…”
“…imagine spending all day…”
“…chasing something that isn’t even there.”
She lazily flicked her tail.
“Now that’s exhausting.”
Dragon Claw laughed so hard his wings flapped.
“She has a point!”
Mom smiled and finally walked over.
She gently took the iPad.
“Okay, babies…”
“…that’s enough Cat Gunner for today.”
“Awwwwww…”
The three kittens looked up with their biggest, saddest eyes.
“Five more minutes?”
asked Chad.
“Pretty please?”
asked Agaricus.
“We’re almost at the next boss!”
said Echo.
Mom smiled warmly.
“Nope.”
“You’ve had lots of screen time.”
“…Now I want you to do what kittens do best.”
The three looked at one another.
“…What’s that?”
Mom grinned.
“Go run around.”
“Climb things.”
“Chase each other.”
“And…”
“…make a few harmless messes.”
The kittens’ ears shot straight up.
“WE’RE ALLOWED TO MAKE MESSES?!”
Mom laughed.
“The kind that are easy to clean.”
Before she even finished speaking…
ZOOM!
Chad sprinted down the hallway.
WHOOSH!
Agaricus chased after him.
Echo bounced off the couch…
Across a pillow…
Over Dragon Claw’s tail through the window…
And back inside again.
Within seconds…
A toy mouse flew across the RV.
A crinkle ball rolled under the table.
A feather wand mysteriously landed on Dragon Claw’s nose.
Dragon Claw laughed so hard he almost fell over.
“This…”
“…looks much more like kittens.”
Mom reached into the toy basket.
She tossed out fuzzy mice.
Jingly balls.
Cat tunnels.
A cardboard box.
And…
The favorite feather wand.
The kittens exploded with excitement.
Che-Ni-Mon smiled and joined in, dragging her blanket through the tunnel like a superhero cape.
Even Lily slowly stood up.
She lazily batted the feather wand exactly once.
“…Good enough.”
She curled back into her cozy spot with a satisfied smile.
Mom watched the happy chaos fill the RV.
Dragon Claw chuckled as toys rolled past his giant paws.
The RV was no longer quiet.
It was filled with laughter, zoomies, jingling toys…
And two very happy kittens remembering that sometimes the best games don’t need a screen at all.
