🎆🇺🇸 The RV Guardians’ Fourth of July 🇺🇸🎆
The sun was beginning to set.
The sky glowed orange and pink.
The air smelled like summer.
And all around the RV…
Families were setting up fireworks.
Chad bounced excitedly.
“Today’s the day!”
Agaricus smiled.
“The Fourth of July!”
Echo was already outside.
Running circles around Dragon Claw.
Che-Ni-Mon peeked from behind the RV.
“…Are they loud?”
Mom laughed.
“A little.”
“A little?”
“A lot.”
Che-Ni-Mon gulped.
“Oh.”
Dragon Claw landed beside the RV with a giant wooden crate strapped to his back.
“I brought the fireworks!”
The kittens gasped.
“So many!”
There were fountains.
Sparklers.
Colorful rockets.
Spinning wheels.
Tiny poppers.
And one enormous firework tucked safely in the back.
Chad pointed.
“What’s that one?”
Dragon Claw grinned.
“…The grand finale.”
As darkness settled over the sky, the celebration began.
Dragon Claw carefully breathed the tiniest puff of fire.
Fssssss…
The first fountain came alive.
Golden sparks danced into the night.
The kittens stared in amazement.
“It’s beautiful.”
whispered Agaricus.
Dragon Claw smiled.
One by one he lit each firework with careful little puffs of dragon fire.
Green.
Blue.
Purple.
Gold.
Red.
Every explosion painted the sky with brilliant colors.
Echo couldn’t stop smiling.
Every time a firework burst overhead…
She got the zoomies.
She sprinted around the yard.
Leaped over lawn chairs.
Ran around Dragon Claw.
Then around the RV.
Then around everyone else.
“I LOVE FIREWORKS!”
she laughed.
Meanwhile…
Che-Ni-Mon watched from beside Mom.
Every burst made her jump.
BOOM!
“AH!”
“…Pretty.”
BOOM!
“AH!”
“…Very pretty.”
BOOM!
She accidentally jumped into a flower pot.
“…Still pretty.”
The others couldn’t help but laugh.
Che-Ni-Mon loved the colors.
She just wished…
They were quieter.
Inside the RV…
Lily sighed.
Another firework exploded.
BOOM!
Lily opened one eye.
“…Really?”
She moved to the couch.
BOOM!
She moved to the bed.
BOOM!
She tried the window seat.
BOOM!
She looked toward the ceiling.
“There is literally nowhere to nap.”
Lily wasn’t scared.
Not even a little.
She was simply…
Annoyed.
“I would like to file a complaint against the entire holiday.”
she mumbled.
Outside, the fireworks continued.
Eventually only one remained.
The biggest one.
The grand finale.
Echo stood proudly beside it.
“Can I light this one?”
Dragon Claw smiled.
“I think you’ve earned it.”
Echo nodded proudly.
Just before lighting it…
Chad suddenly shouted,
“WAIT!”
Everyone froze.
“We forgot Mom!”
Agaricus gasped.
“The grand finale should be for everyone!”
The two kittens sprinted toward the RV.
“Mom!”
“You have to come see this!”
Mom smiled and walked outside.
She looked around.
Five happy cats.
One enormous dragon.
A beautiful summer night.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
Echo carefully looked at Dragon Claw.
He nodded.
She lit the fuse.
Fssssssssssss…
The firework shot into the sky.
Higher.
Higher.
Higher.
Then—
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
The night exploded with color.
Gold.
Blue.
Red.
Purple.
Silver.
Green.
Hundreds of sparkling stars spread across the sky.
Then…
Tiny golden hearts.
The kittens gasped.
Dragon Claw smiled.
Mom smiled.
Che-Ni-Mon jumped.
“…Wow.”
Even Lily looked out the window.
She stared at the sky for a long moment.
“…Okay.”
she admitted quietly.
“…That one was worth waking up for.”
The fireworks slowly faded.
The stars returned.
The night grew quiet once again.
Everyone wandered back into the RV.
Echo curled up by the window.
Still smiling.
Che-Ni-Mon wrapped herself in two blankets.
“I’m glad I watched.”
she yawned.
“It was loud…”
“…but beautiful.”
Chad and Agaricus fell asleep talking about next year’s fireworks.
Dragon Claw gently folded his wings beside the RV.
Mom tucked everyone in.
Lily finally found silence.
She smiled.
“…Now…”
“…I can nap.”
Within minutes…
The entire RV was filled with gentle purring.
Outside…
A few distant fireworks echoed across the hills.
But inside…
The RV Guardians slept peacefully after a day they would never forget.
