🌲🧭 The Second Day at Cloudcroft 🧭🌲
The morning after their camping adventure, the RV Guardians woke to the smell of fresh mountain air.
Birds chirped.
The pine trees swayed gently.
The campsite was peaceful once again.
Chad stretched.
“Best camping trip ever.”
Agaricus smiled.
“And today is Day Two!”
Echo yawned.
“I slept great.”
Che-Ni-Mon looked much more rested than yesterday.
“I think my blankets scared away all the scary things.”
Lily stepped out of her tent.
“I finally got a proper nap.”
Mom smiled as she handed everyone breakfast.
“Why don’t you all explore a little today?”
“Can we?”
asked Chad.
“Just stay together.”
Mom replied.
Dragon Claw smiled.
“I’ll stay here and keep an eye on camp.”
The five cats waved goodbye and disappeared down the forest trail.
The morning sunlight danced through the trees.
Little butterflies floated through the air.
Tiny squirrels climbed the branches overhead.
Everything was peaceful.
Until…
“We should go that way.”
said Chad.
“I think the trail goes this way.”
said Agaricus.
Echo suddenly pointed.
“There’s another trail!”
Hidden behind a patch of bushes…
A narrow path twisted into the forest.
“Ooooh…”
said Chad.
“Secret trail!”
The five cats followed it.
The trees grew taller.
The bushes thicker.
The forest quieter.
Then…
They stepped into a giant hedge maze.
Tall green walls surrounded them.
Twisting paths stretched in every direction.
The kittens gasped.
“A maze!”
Echo grinned.
“I’ll find the exit.”
Before anyone could answer…
She disappeared.
“…Echo?”
Silence.
Agaricus sighed.
“She didn’t even wait.”
Meanwhile…
Echo confidently marched forward.
“This way.”
Left.
Right.
Straight.
Left again.
“…”
“…I have absolutely no idea where I am.”
Back with the others…
Chad confidently picked a path.
“This one feels lucky.”
Five minutes later…
Dead end.
Che-Ni-Mon peeked around the corner.
“I think…”
“…we’re trapped forever.”
“We’ve been here six minutes.”
said Agaricus.
“Exactly!”
Meanwhile…
Echo had become even more lost.
She scratched her head.
“Maybe…”
“…if I climb.”
In one giant leap…
Echo scrambled to the top of the hedge.
She looked around.
“Oh.”
The maze was enormous.
“…That didn’t help.”
Then something caught her eye.
Far beyond the maze…
Water sparkled.
“A waterfall?”
Echo forgot all about the maze.
She hopped down the outside of the hedge.
And followed the sound of rushing water.
Back inside…
The others continued searching.
Chad insisted they were close.
Che-Ni-Mon insisted they were doomed.
Agaricus quietly kept everyone moving.
Lily…
Simply wandered.
No map.
No plan.
No hurry.
She stopped to admire flowers.
Watched butterflies.
Took a tiny nap in a sunny patch.
Then turned one corner.
Another.
And…
“There it is.”
The maze exit.
Lily blinked.
“Hm.”
She calmly walked out.
A park ranger sitting nearby looked surprised.
“You solved it already?”
“I was just walking.”
said Lily.
The ranger laughed.
“Sometimes that’s all it takes.”
A little while later…
Chad, Agaricus, and Che-Ni-Mon finally found the exit too.
“There you are!”
said Chad.
“You beat us!”
Lily shrugged.
“I wasn’t racing.”
“But…”
asked Agaricus.
“…where’s Echo?”
Everyone looked around.
No Echo.
“…Echo?”
Far away…
Echo stood at the edge of a breathtaking waterfall.
Sunlight poured through the mist.
A rainbow stretched across the water.
Birds flew overhead.
“…Worth it.”
she smiled.
Just then she heard familiar voices.
“ECHOOOOOO!”
“Oh.”
“They’re looking for me.”
She followed the river back.
A few minutes later she walked into camp as if nothing had happened.
“There you are!”
said Chad.
“We’ve been looking everywhere!”
Echo blinked.
“I found a waterfall.”
Everyone stared.
“You…”
said Agaricus.
“…found a waterfall?”
“It was really pretty.”
Dragon Claw smiled.
“You got lost again, didn’t you?”
“…Maybe.”
said Echo.
The family laughed.
“Can you show us?”
asked Chad.
Echo nodded.
Soon all six friends—and Dragon Claw flying overhead—made their way to the hidden waterfall.
Mom was waiting there too with a picnic blanket.
“I had a feeling Echo would discover something special.”
she smiled.
The rest of the afternoon was spent skipping rocks.
Watching butterflies.
Listening to the rushing water.
And enjoying one more perfect day together before heading home.
That evening, as Dragon Claw gently carried the RV through the sunset toward home, Chad looked out the window.
“Best camping trip ever.”
Agaricus smiled.
“Even if we got lost.”
Echo stretched.
“I wasn’t lost.”
“You weren’t?”
asked Che-Ni-Mon.
Echo grinned.
“I just found something first.”
Lily closed her eyes.
“…Close enough.”
The RV gently hummed through the evening sky as everyone drifted off to sleep.
Another camping adventure had become another unforgettable memory.
